There are three classes of people in Nigeria: civilians, military and hoodlums.
In view of the incidents that have taken Nigeria by storm in the last few months, one major problem has reared its head and will no longer be ignored- the hoodlum problem.
Although the Oxford English Dictionary defines a hoodlum as a “violent criminal, especially one who is part of a gang,” I think I can more adequately define it as a person who has little to lose and lives life on the edge at all times, seeking and not minding who they drag down with them. Totally un-self-governed, uneducated while giving room to sharp outbursts of anger.

If you’ve been anywhere in the major cities in Nigeria, you would say unequivocally that there is a hoodlum problem in Nigeria. These hoodlums are usually easy to ignore for they are mere inconveniences that we encounter in traffic sometimes. They do not interact with us but we see the manner in which they interact with the drivers of commercial vehicles. From their behaviour we can see that they are rash and impulsive, profane individuals who apply excessive force at the slightest provocation.
